Information

Professor Dr. Soraya Abdel Fattah Mohamed Abdel Rahman Malhas (1924-2013) was a writer, poet, researcher and university professor.

Soraya Abd al-Fattah Malhas was born in Amman in 1924. Her father is Abd al-Fattah Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman Malhas, and her mother is a Circassian, Haji Khan Lambaz. Her family lived in Amman before the establishment of the Emirate of Transjordan, where she received her primary and secondary education before completing them in Jerusalem at the English College. She continued her university studies in Beirut and London. She joined the American University of Beirut, where she obtained a BA in Arabic literature and language in 1947, with first class honors. In 1951, she obtained her master's degree again from the American University of Beirut, with first class honors. The subject of her thesis was "The Literature of the Spirit among the Arabs". This treatise was published in 1964 after being revised and modified with the title: "Spiritual Values in Arabic Poetry, Ancient and Modern."

She joined Beirut University College for Girls to teach there in 1952. After that, she continued her studies at the University of London, Department of Oriental and African Studies. In 1970, she was nominated for a doctorate at the Jesuit University of Beirut (Saint Joseph University), Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, Department of Arabic Language and Literature, as well as a full-time teaching position, and registered her thesis entitled: Kashajem, his era, his biography, his effects.

It is worth noting that this poet and scholar-Kashjem was obscured by everyone, and no one wrote about him but two or a few lines, but researcher Malhas came out of her thesis with a thousand and seven hundred pages in her handwriting. In 1981, she obtained an international doctorate (first class) from Saint Joseph University (Jesus) in Beirut, and the title of the thesis became: Mahmoud bin Al Hussein, known as Abu Al-Fath Kashim Al-Baghdadi in his works and the effects of scholars. In 1989, she obtained the rank of Professor (Professor). And I moved from teaching to supervising master's and doctoral theses at the Lebanese University. In 1994, a decree was issued for her by the university extending one academic year to continue supervising doctoral theses at the same university, but she apologized..
