Faisal “Muhammad Rashad” Salman Hourani (born on March 23, 1939 in Al-Masmiya Al-Saghira - died on May 12, 2022 in Geneva ), a Palestinian writer and journalist who worked in the media of the Palestine Liberation Organization and headed its studies department. He has several published literary and political works dealing with History of the Palestinian issue and politics.

His upbringing and education

He was born in 1939 in the small village of Al-Masmiya in the Gaza District . He took refuge with his family as a result of the 1948 war in the Gaza Strip . Then the family moved to Damascus , where he received his school education and worked as a teacher. He graduated from the University of Damascus in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, sociology, and psychology. .

His political and journalistic activity

He lived for a year in Algeria, where he worked in journalism, then returned to Damascus in 1965 and worked as an editor in Al-Baath newspaper, and wrote programs for Syrian radio and television. In 1962, he joined the Arab Socialist Baath Party [4] and remained a member until it was dismissed in 1968. [5] However, he continued to work as editor-in-chief of “ Al-Tala’i ” magazine until 1970. [6] He was also a member of the editorial board of “Voice of Palestine” magazine. ».
In the years 1977 and 1978, he served as Deputy Representative of the PLO in Moscow, then returned to Damascus, where he headed the Department of Information and Public Relations in the Political Department of the PLO. In 1979, he worked at the Research Center in Beirut , where he later assumed the editorship of its periodical, “ Palestinian Affairs .” After the 1982 war, he moved with the Center’s staff to Nicosia in Cyprus .
He represented the Palestinian Writers Union in the Palestinian National Council , which was held in Amman in 1984, and in 1988 he was appointed a member of the Palestinian National Council.
In 1989 he moved to Vienna , and in 1995 he returned to the areas of the National Authority in Palestine, where he resided partially.
