Ibrahim Ahmad Ibrahim Al-Khatib
(1938 - February 5, 2011), a Palestinian-Jordanian poet and physician.
He was born and raised in a national
town in Jenin Governorate. He studied in Damascus and graduated as a medical
doctor in 1973, then specialized in the United States in 1981. He worked in Saudi
Arabia for a while, then moved to Irbid in Jordan, where he settled as a doctor
specializing in gynecology. He published his poetry in many Syrian and Arab
newspapers, and he has many collections of poetry. He died in Irbid after
suffering from an illness that had left him incapacitated for years.
his biography
Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Khatib was
born in the year 1938 AD / 1357 AH in a national village in the Bisan District
during the British Mandate over Palestine, where he grew up. He completed his
high school studies in Jordan, then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine
from the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University in 1973, then obtained an
American Certificate of Specialization in Gynecology in 1981. He worked in
Saudi Arabia for nine or seven years, then moved to Irbid in Jordan, where he
worked as a physician in Obstetrics and gynecology and infertility in his
private clinic.
He suffered a sudden stroke, which
put him into a coma for a while, and although he woke up from it, it left its
effects on his body, and he remained confined to the house, and his movement
was restricted for years, until he died on February 5, 2011 / 2 Rabi` al-Awwal
1432 at the age of 73 after suffering with the disease that It seated him for
years.
his literary career
His poetic talent emerged during his
studies in Damascus, and he got acquainted with a large number of Arab poets
and writers there, and began publishing in Arab newspapers and magazines. He
wrote many dramas for radio and television. He was a member of the Jordanian
Writers Association and was elected a member of one of its administrative
bodies. He was also a member of the Association of Doctors Poets, and a member
of the Jordanian Medical Association. Some of his poems have been translated
into a foreign language. He participated in many local and Arab poetry festivals,
such as the Jerash Festival, and the Al-Mirbad Poetry Festival, which he used
to read at its opening.
He was active in the Jordanian
Writers Association in the Irbid branch and in the headquarters in Amman. He
ran in the elections of the Writers Association and became a member of its
administrative board. He became the secretary for foreign affairs in the
association during his membership in the administrative body. He was also
active in the Arab Writers Union in Damascus, the Association of Poets Doctors,
and the Doctors Syndicate, which are institutions and bodies he affiliated
with.
