Abu al-Haijaa Afif Muhammad Abd al-Rahman (August 10, 1937 - April 19, 2019) was a Palestinian-Jordanian linguist and literary academic. He was born in the village of Ain Hod, near Haifa, during the British Mandate of Palestine, and grew up there. He obtained a master's degree from Cairo University in 1968 in literature and a doctorate from the same university in 1971. He worked as a teacher in Jordan and Kuwait, then director of the Arabic language department at Yarmouk University. He has many books on history, Arabic literature, investigations and literary studies. He died in Amman.

Afif Muhammad al-Rahman was born in the village of Ain Hawd, near Haifa, on August 10, 1937 / Jumada al-Akhirah 3, 1356. He obtained a master’s degree from Cairo University in 1968 in literature, specializing in (Abassi literature) for his thesis on the phenomenon of pessimism in Arabic poetry from Abi Al-Atahiya to Abi Al-Ala Maari. He received his doctorate from Cairo University itself in 1971 (specializing in pre-Islamic literature) on his thesis on poetry and the days of the Arabs in the pre-Islamic era.
He worked first in relief schools from 1954 to 1964, then at the Teachers Training Center from 1964 to 1965, and from there he moved to Kuwait, where he worked in its schools from 1965 to 1970, and in its institutes from 1971 to 1976, and from there he returned to Jordan where he worked as director of the Arabic language department at Yarmouk University until his retirement.

Achievements and Awards

Received a grant from the DAAD Foundation for Scientific Research, and spent the summer of 1983 at German universities

 He received an ICA scholarship and spent the summer of 1979 studying at St. John's College in America.


He was a member and head of committees, including a member of the committee for drawing up a master's plan in Arabic language methods.

 Member of the Graduate Studies Committee, member of the College of Science and Arts Council, and Vice President of Yarmouk University Club.
