Information

Lana Shaheen (1973 AD, Syria) is a Gazan journalist, a trainer in the field of journalism and media, and a lecturer at Palestine University-Gaza. She is the managing editor of Al-Mayadeen TV office in Gaza. She was honored by the British Academy of Languages for her journalistic work. She is the recipient of many Arab and foreign awards in preparing and directing documentaries.

Birth and upbringing
Lina Shaheen was born in 1973 in Syria, to a Palestinian immigrant family from the village of Qubeiba, Ramle District. Shaheen studied English literature at Damascus University. After moving to Palestine - specifically in the Gaza Strip - Shaheen began her professional orientation towards the profession of journalism. In 1997, Shaheen worked for Palestine TV, where she had a stock of political terminology by virtue of her studies of English literature. Shaheen worked in Palestine TV until she became the editor-in-chief of the English Language Department, then began borrowing journalism books from her colleagues to start a new field in the world of journalism. Shaheen worked as a translator during the arrival of a delegation from a Swedish institution "Voyo" to Palestine. This institution held courses for television for three years, during which Shaheen obtained tremendous experience in journalistic work from preparing, filming, editing and preparing news reports, and she was working with foreign delegations to benefit from their experiences. Shaheen later worked in the field of written, audio, and television journalism, then became a reporter for Jordan TV and Dubai TV for several years, and then a reporter for Nile TV for five years. Shaheen is currently working as a reporter and editor-in-chief of the Gaza bureau of Al-Mayadeen satellite channel.

Her work in Al-Mayadeen News Channel
Shaheen started her work with Al-Mayadeen TV in 2012, where she covered many hot events in the Gaza Strip, most notably the Gaza war in the summer of 2014. She contributed to directing documentaries that were shown on Al-Mayadeen TV, including “The War of Antiquities” which Al-Mayadeen TV showed in 2016.

Its role in the 2014 Gaza war
The Gaza war in the summer of 2014 had the greatest impact on Shaheen's performance as a journalist first, and as a person second. Shaheen extensively covered the events of the Gaza war on Al-Mayadeen TV, observing the most violent and bloody scenes of the war, in addition to the dangers she was exposed to. In addition to her permanent work outside the home and after midnight in dangerous areas, she is committed to the principle of “professionalism first, and patriotism precedes everything.”
