Information
Radi Annab, the first Jordanian
commander of the Jordanian Arab Army and one of the officers who formed the
first nucleus of the Jordanian Arab Army in 1923 AD. Born in Nablus in 1898 AD,
he joined Nablus schools and studied at the Teachers Institute in Beirut. He
joined the Ottoman army, as he is required in any case for compulsory military
service, so he became an officer, and later joined the army of the Great Arab
Revolt, after Sharif Hussein bin Ali announced the start of the Great Arab
Revolt in 1916, he came to Transjordan, and joined the founding Prince Abdullah
He was among the men of Jordan and free Arabs who received him in Ma'an. He
joined the Arab Army on July 1, 1923, with the rank of lieutenant.
In his capacity as the Jerusalem
district police chief, Annab was present with King Abdullah I on the day he was
assassinated in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem by a Palestinian gunman opposed to
the king's policies. In the ensuing clash with the shooter in which he was
killed, Inab was wounded. On June 29, 1953, Inab met Israeli General Moshe
Dayan and they discussed ways to end attempts by Palestinian refugees to
infiltrate the Israeli side of the Green Line, which causes panic to Israel .

On March 1, 1956, a royal will was
issued by King Hussein bin Talal to Arabize the leadership of the Arab Army, to
refute the claim of Arab nationalists that Glubb Pasha, the commander of the
Arab Legion, is the de facto ruler of Jordan, to terminate the service of
Lieutenant General Klopp from the position of Chief of Staff of the Jordanian
Arab Army, and to promote Radi Annab to the rank of Major General and appointed
him as the Chief of Staff of the Jordanian Arab Army. In May 1956, a decision
was issued to refer him to retirement. Two months later, on May 24, 1956, he
was succeeded by Major Colonel Ali Abu Nowar.
