Fayez Muhammad Mahmoud Abu Aita (Abu Muhammad; born on September 27, 1967 in Jabalia camp) is a liberated prisoner, Palestinian politician and diplomat. He holds a PhD in constitutional law and political systems, deputy secretary of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, and a member of the Palestinian National Council.

 

Foundation

Fayez Abu Aita was born in 1967 in Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. The Abu Aita family was forcibly displaced in 1948 from the Palestinian village of Najd, located near the border areas of the Gaza Strip. Abu Aita was arrested at the beginning of his youth at the age of 16 and spent eight years in Israeli prisons (1984-1992). During his detention, he moved to several detention centers such as Ashkelon, Nafha, Gaza, Ramla and Sabaa. During this period, he was able to master the Hebrew language and obtain a high school diploma. After that, Abu Aita devoted himself to organizational work inside the prison, as he was one of the leaders of the Fatah movement in Ashkelon detention center. Abu Aita participated in many strikes, the most important of which was a 17-day hunger strike in Nafha prison.

Abu Aita was elected one year after the advent of the Palestinian Authority as a member of the Northern Gaza Region Committee for the year 1995, and was even re-elected for the next electoral cycle in 2005. Abu Aita was elected mayor of Beit Lahia in 2004. Abu Aita was appointed as the official spokesman for the Fatah movement in 2009. Abu Aita was elected a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council at the Fatah Movement's Seventh Congress, and shortly thereafter he was elected as First Deputy Secretary of the Fatah Revolutionary Council. Abu Aita held the position of Acting Minister of Information with the rank of Undersecretary and Acting Minister in 2018. Abu Aita held several positions at the governmental and political levels:

 

Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Worked as Acting Minister of Information and Undersecretary of the Ministry 2018.

First Deputy Secretary of the Fatah Revolutionary Council.

He held the position of Director General of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Prisoners in 2000.

Deputy Commissioner General of the National Relations Commission of the Fatah Movement 2017.

Abu Aita enrolled in high school, but he was unable to finish his studies at that time due to his detention in Israeli prisons. However, he was able to obtain a high school diploma during his detention, and he was able to learn and master the Hebrew language during his detention. After the end of the detention period, Abu Aita enrolled in the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University to obtain a bachelor's degree. Then he obtained a master's degree in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Then he obtained a Ph.D. in constitutional law and political systems at Mansoura University in 2008. Abu Eita gave many political seminars in several Palestinian and Arab universities. Such as the political symposium held on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration in light of the facts of the deal of the century at Al-Istiqlal University. Abu Eita's career was not limited to studies only, but he was also active in the academic field. He held several academic positions:

 

University lecturer at Al-Istiqlal University in Jericho. During his teaching at Al-Istiqlal University, he contributed to the establishment of the College of Legal and Police Sciences 2009-2010.

University lecturer at Al-Quds Open University 2011-2015.

University lecturer at the University of Palestine in the Gaza Strip, where he studied constitutional law and political systems at the Faculty of Law in 2013-2016.
