Ahmad Abu Ghosh (born February 1,
1996) is a Jordanian taekwondo player of Palestinian origin. He won a gold
medal for Jordan at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the men's 68
kg taekwondo competition while he is still studying at the University of
Jordan. It is the first official medal for Jordan in the history of its
participation in the Olympic Games. Before that, Abu Ghosh was the third
Jordanian player to win the World Junior Taekwondo Championship in 2012 in
Sharm El-Sheikh, after other Jordanians, Muhammad Al-Abbadi in the 2002 World
Cup in Greece and Yazan Al-Sadiq in the 2008 World Cup in Turkey.
On October 30, 2020, he suddenly
announced his retirement from international football, and on November 6, 2020,
the Jordanian Public Security Court issued a 6-month prison sentence, on
charges of forging official documents and illegal possession of a passport.
Then, on November 23, 2020, the court decided to stop the execution of his
prison sentence.
His life and sporting upbringing
Ahmed Omran Issa Abu Ghosh was born
in Amman on February 1, 1996, and is of Palestinian origin. His father, Omran
Issa Abu Ghosh, was born in 1947 in the village of Emwas, which was occupied
and its people expelled from it in 1967, so his family emigrated to Jordan.
According to one of his relatives, “The Abu Ghosh family is known in Jerusalem,
and the village of Abu Ghosh was named after the family, but not all of its
members are descended from this village, part of them were displaced from the
village of Emwas or Latrun.” It is also mentioned that his father passed away
on November 29, 2020.
Abu Ghosh started his star career
within the Al-Fares Taekwondo Center, then in 2010 he was in the ranks of the
national team for junior Taekwondo World Junior Taekwondo Championships in
Sharm El-Sheikh. tournament. Then he participated in all national teams of all
age groups, then won the gold medal in the World and Asian Championships, and
the award for the best Jordanian athlete granted by the Jordanian Olympic
Committee. In 2013, he was injured by the cruciate ligament, and he stayed away
from Taekwondo for one year, after which he returned to follow up on the
exercises and qualifications for juniors.

Qualifying for the Olympics
Ahmed Abu Ghosh obtained the
official qualification card for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics by winning the gold
medal for the weight of under 68 kg in the Asian Olympic Qualification for
Taekwondo that was held in the Philippine capital, Manila. Where he beat the
Mongolian player Timoen Roifjan, then the player from Singapore, and then the
Bahraini player Abdullah Al-Ahmadi, 13-2. Then in the final against a player
from Thailand with a big score of 15-2 to be qualified for the Olympics.
